Valley girl accent spreads like verbal melanoma

The story below claims that people incorrectly judge a valley girl accent as being a sign of insecurity, shallowness, and stupidity.

My first question: isn't it?

Second question: how did the people performing this study stand listening to all the asinine people using this accent without going berserk? Unless, of course, the very investigator speaks valley girl. And in that case, the entire study should be summarily dismissed as prejudicial nonsense.
